Property Claims
Property Claims General Information
Once your claim has been reported to your carrier, you should expect
to hear from a company adjuster within 24-48 hours. Be sure to
document the name of the individual assigned to your claim as well
as the claim number, phone number and extension. If you do not
hear from someone in a timely manner please call our office so
that we may follow up for you.
It is your responsibility to make sure that your property is secure
and protected from further loss. Please take whatever measures you
deem necessary to do so and save any receipts for any cost involved.
It may help you to take photos and/or video of the damage if applicable,
prior to the start of clean up. You may also wish to start an inventory
of the property damaged as this will be required at a later date
from the carrier. If you have receipts for any damaged property,
you may wish to start gathering them.
In some cases, the insurance company may not send an adjuster to
the scene and you may just be required to secure estimates for repair
work.
As such, it is recommended that you make contact with someone qualified
to provide you with such an estimate and that it be in writing with
as much detail as possible.
If you have been the victim of a crime, please be certain the police
are contacted and that you provide them with the same list of damaged
property as you present to the insurance company.
Do not begin repair work, other than that necessary to avoid further
damage, without discussing it with the insurance company first. They
have the right to inspect the damage and failing to allow them ample
time to do so
could
jeopardize your settlement.
